Default PUG Monks

PUG (Pick Up (Group)) Monks.

Who like's em? Who's actually been healed by one?? Is it just me or do some random monks lately suck?

I've been getting better monks in RA and in Team Arenas even if I recruit them into my party they end up using healing prayers and no boon, or take forever to heal. Seriously, improve your healing for those of you who are new! Go face NPC's or something IMO.

I was GvGing yesterday and we had 3 monks. One running same build as me, but he just got the game a week ago so he didn't do so well. We had a monk who had the game for months and was horrible. Monk/Mesmer, you would think he'd do fine.

He used Backfire on a Warrior Mesmer as he stood there staffing Warrior Monks and running away from the objective and his own party, and once in a while cast Breeze on himself as everyone else drops like diseased creatures. I learned a monk build not too long ago and without much practice I am the best monk that people I play with can find recently... I'm not bragging but I just don't think people are bringing right builds.

May I say that Protection overpowers Healing Prayers, and without Divine Favor and Boon, there is really no point in trying. That's how you do well while healing. Or Bonders, however they have alot of pressure on them.

I just wanted to see if anyone was having the same problems in the arenas.

Before the OoB nerf RA monks were very common and actually some of them were quite decent. Now, RA monks suck, except for a few exceptions.

Its obviously that you dont have guild monks if you invite a pug monk. You have to deal with them if you dont have choice. I have seen a lot of "blame everything on monks" thing. Who knows, maybe the one who blame everything on monks is a very bad player oneself, so bad that Dwayna would give up on them.

With so many threads stating that monks are the most reliable way to farm fame after the IWAY nerf, tis little wonder why there is such a sudden upsurge of them running around

Ok, IWAY rips aside, some monks may just be having a harder time adjusting to the skill changes. OoB is still a hot topic for PvP monks, as is Mend Ailment for the Prot Booners. Some are still finding their feet; others never found them in the first place. So no, I haven't seen too much of a drop in Arena performance, monkwise. At least, no more than can be expected.

I am a PUG monk, that's how I've gotten what relatively little fame I have. And yes, I have noticed that people seem to be elated when I can actually perform my role in a PUG. "Holy sh*t! An RC/active that removes blind before i ping it!"

We're not all useless, so please dont generalize. There are about ten I know and have played with many times that are very good, and are always playing in PUGs.

And if you're fighting wa/mos (that don't have CoP) then you probably don't need a good monk, anyway.

There always is an upsurge in one particular profession when it becomes popular in HA as people will roll a character type just to get into a team. Monks seem to be profession of choice at the moment, until the ritualist appears anyway

PUG Monks were never good, that's common knowledge.

And the OOB made alot of Monks worse, everyone was used to OOB, and I must agree, the new types of Energy Management either suck, or are quite hard to play.

But the main problem is, you can see what the Monk is doing by looking at the team box. As a Monk myself, I look at what skills other members of my PUG are using from time to time, and they suck too most of the time, it's just that you don't see them suck, just the Monks.

Opinion threads like this really don't contribute to PvP knowledge - they just provide a place for people to share common frustrations and rants. While that might make the OP feel better, it really does not offer much in terms of new insights and knowledge. The threads in this forum are really starting to improve and become much more useful for helping people improve their PvP play - let's try to continue that trend!
